One of My Most Embarrassing Moments!

I have had the week from you know where, and next week will be worse. But anyway, on Tuesday, I had a family funeral so I wore a skirt and sweater to work. I had to make a dessert for the funeral dinnner put on by the ladies of the church (Me included). So I left early to drop it by the church, just before leaving the house, took one last bathroom break, threw on my coat, and out the door. No one was at the church, so I used my key to get in and tooke my dessert in. I was leaving the church through the basement door, and noticed someone was at the top of the stairs at main entrance trying to get in, and I aksed if they were having trouble with their key, about the time they got the door opened. Unfortunately he turned to me and said hey what are you doing here, I explained, standing with my back to the sun, and then I turned to get in my car, opened my door, and looked down at my skirt. The outer layer had gotten stuck in the waste band, and only the inner, very thin, black layer was hanging below my coat. And with the sun at my back, was completely see through.

I don't know what the guy seen through his eyes, I am hoping it just looked normal, but I guess when I see him a church Sunday, I will be either really embarrassed or nothing will happen.

Interesting going to work these days

They are remodeling our old Courthouse, where I work. We have been out of our office since May. We thought we would be back in our office by Sept., then, Oct., and now it's almost Dec. I guess that is to be expected, between Historic Society (grant money for remodeling), architects, contractors, everyone in between. Our office is coming along, though. They are taking it back to the original ceilings, walls, going to be beautiful. Our windows with bunches of little panes, were sent away and refurbished. They are now back in. All the wood is oak, and now has been restained and varnished.

But where we are working now, is with another office, we share phones, and work space. The ceiling is leaking, because they are working on the bathroom above us. Lots of people in and out. Been very interesting. Electricity is off and on in other offices, the contractors have accidently cut phone lines, computer lines. We just can't wait to get back to normal around here. Just a little more patience!!!!! I will post a picture when things are done. It's an old building getting a face lift, but some parts will be brand new.

Will keep you updated!

Family weekend

I have a very fun weekend coming up. I grew up being very close to my cousins. My mom was the oldest of 7 siblings, and we all spent every Thanksgiving, Christmas, most Easters.

One of my cousins has twin boys that are Seniors playing in a High School Football playoff game here in our home town. They are playing on the opposing team! Should be very interesting. Afterwards the family and friends are all coming to my house for slopping joes and the works. I am so looking forward to a big family get together!

The above picture is some of the cousins at a recent family reunion. By the way, I am the oldest of the cousins, also.

Halloween '09

So as I promised here is a picture of us girls dressed as the Jackson 5. We had just as much fun getting ready as we did going to the costume party! We had snacks and cocktails, sang a little, danced a little, and handed out candy to my friend's Trick or Treaters, too. Unfortunately we did not win, but if we had we practiced a song the Jackson 5 did, Rockin Robin. Just in case we needed to perform. We are such show offs! There were sooooo many good costumes, I don't know how people come up with such things.

Halloween's almost here!

What are you going to be?

I have a crazy group of friends, for one of the girls' 50th birthday party, (which I had to miss because of work) they all dressed up like old ladies, suprised her at her house, had her clothes in a bag, and then they all went bowling. Can you imagine what the other bowlers think?
Last year, 4 of us went to a Halloween Costume Contest as KISS and won, so we had to top that. This year we added a friend, and we are going as the Jackson 5?

Sooooo, stay tuned next week for pictures of the Jackson 5!

R.I.P. Gus

A couple of weeks ago, we were getting ready for our annual camping vacation in the mountains. This is a favorite trip for our 2 yellow labs, since they get to go with us. We actually call it the "dog" vacation. Our old guy, Gus, had not been feeling particularly well. But since he is 12 years old, this is not unusual. We kept a watch on him, and he seemed to snap out of it.

We were leaving on Saturday morning at 7:00 since it is about a 6 hour drive. Bill had gotten up really early, and came a woke me up. Sometime during the night Gus has passed away and was just laying out in the yard. This was a terrible shock, you just don't expect it. I almost think now it was an omen, since the trip would have probably been hard on him.

We had gotten Gus because my son had been babysitting for the people down the street, and their lab had puppies. My son really wanted one, and they gave him the pick of the litter. He seen the puppies everyday, until they were ready to be taken to their homes. Therefore, it was the hardest thing in the world, to call Marcus, who had not been home since March, and tell him the news. Telling our daughter wasn't easy either.

But here we were at 5:45 that morning, digging a hole in the creek not far from our house and having a ceremony for Gus, before we left. He is buried right next to our previous dog, Doc, a German Shorthair Pointer who died at 15, the year we got Gus.

Now left at home with us is Jake, our other lab, 5 years old, who doesn't know anything else but having a pal. He has changed, although a very good dog. So now the question, do we get another one, or just stay with 1 dog. We got Jake 5 years ago when our son left for college, and we knew Gus would be terribly lonely. Now we are in the situation. I guess we will see!

Domaine Chandon

San Francisco

We went to San Francisco this summer, and visited Sonoma/Napa Valley and some wineries. This is a picture taken in front of Domaine Chandon. They make sparkling wine here. It is a French winery, therefore they cannot call it Champagne. Back in the l930's all the wine makers around Europe held a conference and signed a treaty that unless you were from Italy, you could not call it Champage. Since the United States were in prohibition, they were not invited. So Champagne made in the states can be called Champagne. But Domaine Chandon still follows this treaty, and calls it's product Sparkling Wine.

Friday Fill-ins

I haven't done this in awhile, so here goes:

1. When will I be loved? One of my favorite Linda Ronstadt songs, and for singing Kareoke. Doesn't apply to me, I am veryyyy loved!

2. "The Shack" was the last good book I read. I've read lots of books, but this one really makes you think. I had to read it twice to really get it.

3. Everything has its beauty but I really can't see anything beautiful about snakes. I really dislike them!

4.Spaghetti is what I had for dinner. Probably for leftovers tonight, too.

5. I'd like your honest opinion, even though it might not be what I want to hear.

6. Home, not work, is where I want to be right now. Can't wait until 4:30.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to margarita's on the patio when I get home, and more spaghetti, tomorrow my plans include a barbque with some friends and Sunday, I want to relax.

30th Class Reunion

Every County Fair is reunion time. This year was my 30th class reunion. I held a bar-b-que for my classmates at my house with all the trimmings. Except for the storm that passed over with rain/wind while my husband was trying to cook the hamburgers, it was a success. We passed around the year books, and senior trip pictures, and had some good laughs. 1979 was the year for big glasses, the Farrah hair style, us girls wore boys levis and boy shirts. Anyway I did, I was a stick horse and had no shape. Needless to say, I think we all look pretty good for our age!

Bill's New Toy

My husband and I just recently added a new toy to our collection, a Fat Boy Harley. I have always wanted to be a biker chick, black leather and all, and now I can. Right now, I still ride around with him in my shorts and flip flops. Not the safest, but we're just riding around town. I have a black helmet, and I plan on getting some boots, and a black leather jacket. Some day!!
This weekend we are going to a Harley store to by the stuff for a sissy bar to put on the back to give me a little support.

Weekend plans wrecked!

Well I am definately feeling sorry for myself. We had some pretty fun plans for the 4th of July and because of my husbands dedication to his job, we have to stay home. This is why I love him, he has always been a very good provider, but I am bummed. We were going to Estes Park, Colorado in our 5th wheel to a beautiful campground with some friends. We also have some friends who have a house there. Coming from 100 degrees weather, I was looking forward to cool weather. There are really cute shops in Estes, and the fireworks over the lake would be great. I have the groceries for a shrimp boil planned for Sat. night. Sooooo, plans changed, we are staying home, having some friends over for the shrimp boil in our backyard. Another friend is in a band and they are playing at a local bar, so thinking about going and listening to their band. So all is not lost after all. I will cheer up and look forward to the weekend!

Wisdom Teeth

My kids are 27 & 23 years old. They both had braces when they were in school, and the dentist told me they should have their wisdom teeth out, but I let both kids talk me out of it. Now some 10 years later, they both are having fits with them They come in for awhile, hurt like hell, and then go back under the skin. My daughter has dental insurance and she has an apointment with an oral surgeon next week for a consult. My son, who is in college doesn't have insurance, but I would help him out by getting them out. So I got him an appointment with our local dentist, but he chickened out, and said he was going to step up and be a man and deal with it. Oh well, I tried.

So the saga continues...........

Birthday Party

I run around with some girls, and we golf every Wednesday and play poker afterwards in the golf clubhouse during the summer. During the winter, we just play poker at each other's house. We celebrate everyone's birthday on the Wednesday night closest to their birthday, we call it girls night out. In June there are 3 birthday's, so we celebrated all of them last night with some poker, (Golf got rained out), delicious Pina Colada's and food.
I went to school with most of these girls, and our kids have all went to school together. We have been friends for a long time. We all have went through alot together, good and bad. It is so nice to have a group of girls that would do anything for you and vice versa.

Changes are Good! Aren't they?

I have been a blogger (semi-retired) for about a year now, so I thought I needed a change. I am not real creative about it, but here goes. I just picked new colors, changed a picture and that's about it. The new picture is of me and my daughter taken last year. She has also talked me into getting on facebook. I have alot of family and friend on facebook, so I can keep in touch with them. My work slows down right about now, so I have more time to devote to the computer. Jan. - May are pretty busy at tax time.

This summer is Bill (my husband) and I's 30th anniversay We are planning a trip to San Francisco, doing all the tourist stuff. Spending one day on a wine country tour tasting wine. I want to take a bike ride over the Golden Gate Bridge and into Sausalito. I want to take a tour of Alcatraz. I have also been researching restaruants for a romatic dinner on our anniversary.

If anyone has any other ideas let me know. We go in the middle of July.

Where Have I Been?

I have been sooooooo bad as a blogger! I haven't posted for so long, I am ashamed. I still get on and read everyone else's posts, regularly. I have been pretty busy but that is no excuse, everyone is busy.

Just an update on my office life. We are currently under renovation in our old courthouse. We have received a historical grant, and they have started on my part of the offices. The first part of May we (as in Road and Bridge guys) moved to another part of the courthouse with the Commissioners office girls. Most of our records are being stored at another location, we took just the stuff we need to operate. It is one big room, but we have some temporary walls seperating us. We had our phone lines forwarded to their number, so there is only 1 phone ringing, and their receptionist is answering it. She then forwards our calls.

All our filing cabinets are lined up, so when you need something you just stand there and wonder which cabinet you need to open. Things are kind of crazy. Just about the time we get used to this setup we will be moving back into our newly renovated office. They say if all goes well it will be September. Right now they are removing the old asbestos tiles from the floor.

I will try to be a better blogger from now on. I also just signed up for facebook, what was I thinking!
